Old village of Nikiti
You can find Nikiti almost at the beginning of Sithonia, the middle peninsula of Halkidiki, approximately 93 km away from Thessaloniki.
Nikiti with its almost 4000 citizens is one of the first villages in Greece for agriculture and one of the richest of Halkidiki and Makedonia (though you could not tell it by the condition of the local roads...). It has with 30 km the longest coast for one village or city in Greece (Thessaloniki has "only" 7 km).

The village is situated in Makedonia n North Hellas, in the prefecture of Halkidiki. The neighbour villages are Metamorfosis, about 7 km north and Neos Marmaras, about 20 km south of our village. Nea Moudania is about 32 km away, and Polygyros, the capital of Halkidiki, about 40 km.

If you decide to visit the traditional village of Nikiti, contact us some time (some weeks) ahead of your arrival by
(0030) 830 330 (Christos - mobile)
or send e-mail to nikitireserv@yahoo.gr
Inform us about your date of arrival, how long you want to stay how many persons will come. Informations about our holiday houses and apartments and photos you will find on the page of our apartment - catalogue.
Finding airplane from an international airport not too far from your hometown to Thessaloniki is easy in season, but can be difficult early in year or after october. More and more airlines offer "e-tickets" in internet, for example the greek company Aegean Airlines which flies from several European airports.

In times of every month cheaper tickets and new airlines or alliances coming to market all the time, it can be fascinating to go on ticket "hunt" in internet. Just keep in mind that high (and expensive!) safety standards in air traffic can not be kept up for long time when the tickets are sold at the price level of streetcar-fares.
Anyway, all the companies follow the principle: The early bird catches the worm!
The earlier you can book, the better price you will find. And if you plan to come for Greek Easter, you'd better book very early!
From Makedonia Airport you can take a rental car, visit our page with offers for rental cars. Like most of the international companies we can offer you better conditions if you book by internet. If you want a car only for some days of your stay, we will gladly help you to find a company in Nikiti or Neos Marmaras.
Printing and using our short route to Nikiti you will find your way to Sithonia and to us without problems.
If you would like to make your first sightseeing-tour in Halkidiki directly after your arrival by plane you can use our taxi-transfer-service (one taxi can take up to 4 persons with luggage) which will cost 60 - 65,- € for one way (normally taxis coming from Nikiti are cheaper than those directly at the airport).

Another possibility is to travel by bus. From airport one bus is going to the bus-terminal of East Thessaloniki, from where the busses for Halkidiki leave. At the page of the Greek bus companies association www.ktel.org you will unfortunately find only a telephone number but it can be assumed that the last bus for Sithonia will leave at 19:00 o'clock. We will pick up our guests and their luggage at the bus station in Nikiti.
If you choose to travel to Greece by your own car, you can book tickets of all known ferry-lines by internet for example at www.greekferries.gr. Meanwhile all the pages are offered in several different languages.

Nikiti in January ... sometimes...
Food & Drink : Nikiti has many tavernas and restaurants. The best place for a good dinner or lunch is the restaurant of Zafeiroudis Tourist Center "Ta Tria Skalopatia" - "The three Steps"! In our restaurant you can try special traditional recipes from the oven and fresh grilled fish. Enjoy many others delicious dishes and many salads and appetizers, and taste our famous red, white, or rozé house wine. Along the main beach the village has a number of pizzeries, cafeterias and bars where you can drink coffee, beer or a cocktail, watching the sea and the people on beach.

Beaches, Sites & Sights : Our village has 30 km coast with many quiet small beaches and some organized beaches with beach café. Visit the best beaches, some you can reach by walking, the others by car or bus. The water is very warm, and the sea most of times quiet. Aristoteles described the Toroneos gulf as the most peaceful and the warmest sea of Hellas.
Also for friends of old buildings and archaeological sites Nikiti offers many places to visit, with or without car.
Mobile in Nikiti : Finding a rental car or reserving it in advance from your home country is no problem in Nikiti. You can also rent scooters, motorbikes and since last year also bicycles in the village.

Enjoy the magic cruising along the coast of Mount Athos and learn about the different monasteries. You can find tickets through us for the same price as at the depature port in Ormos Panagia. Read about the cruising program.

In season, shopping hours are until 22:00, many shops and supermarkets will open also on sundays. Some of the smaller stores will close in the afternoon until about 17:30 or 18:00, but the big supermarkets will work all the day.
"Cash" : Creditcard readers and e-cash disseminate only slowly in rural Greece (our restaurant accepts credit cards!). Also the Greeks pay almost everything cash, including electricity, taxes and social contributions. Permission to collect money from account is hardly ever given... who would ever trust the tax office or the state-owned electricity provider? Meanwhile Nikiti at least has five cash dispensers which work with the known card-systems.
Don't miss the traditional market every Friday from 8:30 - 13:00 !
You will meet half the village there, chatting and exchanging the week's news and the atmosphere is very nice. The fruits are irrestistible and with a little searching, you can find very cheap lable clothes ... MADE IN GREECE!
Another local product which you can buy at the market or directly from the producers is the most famous product of Nikiti ... HONEY! For more than 600 years the village has a beekeeping tradition and today Nikiti is the biggest honey producing center in Europe with more than 20% of hellenic honey production. Honey from Nikiti is an affordable and healthy gift, and combined with yoghurt it makes a delicious dessert.
In the list below you see different sorts of honey which you can find:
Try also the honey from our "FAMILY'S BEES" with very strong taste and take a glass home with you!

The best Pizza of Nikiti: Not directly on the beach, but sure worth visiting. The only pizzeria with a real pizza-menu. Fresh salads and pasta, draught beer. Menu in greek and english language.
Pies, goodies and coffee
Café, Bar & Cake Shop "La Tarte"
In the office of Hellenic Telecom (OTE) you can make local and long-distance and international phone calls. Telephone cards you can find also at the post office and in some stores. Of course for a couple of years now Nikiti has an Internet-café and in near future also wireless internet will be available.
